Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

About Our Honey & Quality

1. Why is your Organic Orange Blossom Honey so special?

Our Orange Blossom Honey is a truly unique, seasonal treasure. It is harvested only once a year, when our 200 acres of organic citrus orchards in Tamaulipas, Mexico, are in full bloom. This rare, fleeting moment infuses the honey with a delicate, luminous, and authentically floral citrus flavor that simply cannot be found anywhere else. It is the pure, liquid essence of our cherished family land.

2. Is your honey truly organic?

Yes. Our beehives are situated exclusively within our 200 acres of certified organic citrus orchards at Rancho Los Nogales in Mexico. This means the bees forage on nectar and pollen from flowers that are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or herbicides, ensuring a pure and clean honey product.

3. What does “fresh honey” mean, and is that why the Orange Blossom is seasonal?

“Fresh honey” to us means harvesting and bottling the honey at its peak, with minimal processing. The Orange Blossom variety is strictly seasonal because we only harvest it when the orange trees are actively blooming (typically once a year). This commitment to freshness means that when the season ends, that year’s batch is gone until the next bloom.

4. What kind of bees do you keep at the ranch?

Our bees are a mixed population of both Italian and African honey bees. This combination is common in the region; the Italian lineage contributes a gentle nature and strong production, while the African lineage contributes hardiness and excellent foraging efficiency in our unique climate. We manage our hives with care to ensure a healthy, robust colony.

Storage and Consistency

5. My honey is starting to get thick and cloudy. Has it gone bad?

Absolutely not! This process is called crystallization (or granulation), and it is a natural, beautiful sign that you have purchased high-quality, raw, and pure honey. It simply means the natural glucose has separated from the water and formed crystals. Your honey is still perfectly good and safe to eat!

6. What should I do if my honey crystallizes?

You can easily restore it to its liquid, romantic golden state! Simply place the jar (with the lid off) in a pot of warm water (not boiling, like a warm bath) for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Gentle warming will dissolve the crystals without harming the honey’s quality or flavor. Never microwave the honey, as this can degrade its delicate enzymes.

7. Why does honey crystallize in the first place?

Honey is a super-saturated sugar solution, meaning it contains more sugar than the water can hold indefinitely. Over time, the natural sugar (glucose) will separate out and form tiny crystals. The speed of crystallization depends on the flower source, as different honeys have different natural ratios of glucose to fructose.

Ordering and Usage

8. Do you ship your honey, and how do you ensure it arrives safely?

Yes, we are delighted to share the taste of Los Nogales with the whole US! We ship our jars securely packaged, using high-quality bubble wrap and sturdy boxes to ensure your golden nectar arrives safely and beautifully at your door, ready to enjoy.

9. Can I use your Honey Chipotle for cooking and grilling?

Yes, and we highly encourage it! Our Honey Chipotle recipe is specially formulated for use as a grilling glaze, a marinade base for meats and vegetables, a sweet-spicy stir-fry sauce, or even a dipping sauce. It’s an all-year kitchen staple, made with love.

10. What is the best way to enjoy your Orange Blossom Honey?

Its exquisite, delicate citrus aroma is best appreciated in simple ways! We recommend drizzling it over fresh fruit, yogurt, cheese, a light biscuit, or using it to sweeten your tea or a refreshing iced beverage. Let that unique floral essence shine!

11. Does honey expire?

Honey is one of the world’s most incredible natural foods—it practically never spoils! Its low moisture and acidic nature make it an inhospitable environment for bacteria. While the flavor or color may change over many years, and it may crystallize, pure honey remains safe to consume indefinitely when stored properly (sealed, at room temperature).

12. Is your company truly women-owned?

Yes, Los Nogales Honey Co. is a proudly woman-owned and operated business! We are committed to high quality, conscious production, and giving back to our community and future generations, infusing a spirit of warmth and feminine care into every step of our process.
